Anella D. Shillingford
Anella D. Shillingford is a Dominican writer and poet. She published her debut poetry collection, Bonfire, in 2019. In July 2021, she was featured at the Bocas Lit Fest. Her work also appears in Montage Dominik (2021), an anthology compiled by the Waitukubuli Writers Association and published by River Ridge Press.
In 2021, she was awarded for her essay “When Home Is No Longer Home” by the Caribbean Climate Justice Project; the piece was later published in the anthology Where Is the Justice.
Her second collection, Of Rivers and Oceans (2022), further established her voice, with selected poems featured in the Caribbean online magazine Acalabash.
Her latest project, Feels Like Home: A Literary Mixtape (2025), explores the nuances of sound and home through a blend of poetry and prose.
Anella believes that words are heirlooms. Her work explores women’s rights, queerness, the environment, Caribbean history, heritage, and identity. Her writing has also been published by Intersect ANU.
